Statement

I am drawn to geometric and mathematical images and shapes, exemplified by geometric figures. These are widely used in art, such as the golden ratio and perspective, and are considered fundamental concepts and principles of art, treated as rules and mechanisms inherent in each image.

I feel that such universal rules and strong laws in shapes carry the risk of creating uniformity and rigidity in individuals and society, potentially blinding people. My work aims to expose the pitfalls of these laws through a visual approach—seeing and experiencing art.

In creating my work, I recognize that painting itself has rules and mechanisms, and I use "painting" as a key concept. By rearranging the elements of the painting structure, I change and transform what is depicted, simultaneously shifting the laws of imagery and painting.

Through the new forms and ways of being created by my work, I aim to restore the viewer's agency and reclaim the image that is often confined by traditional forms. I create works that combine approaches to the nature of form and the nature of painting on the same canvas, prompting viewers to reconsider the nature of form and painting.
